ABSTRACT

Background: The South African occupational health and safety regulations, prescribing risk assessments be conducted by employers, are non-prescriptive with regard to the tools and techniques to be used. Consequently, companies freely adopt the numerous available tools and techniques from which risk management decisions are derived. Thus, risk management, ensuing from the results derived from these tools and techniques, is likely to vary from company to company. Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate risk assessment processes and methodologies that are used and recorded in noise risk assessment reports, in four manufacturing companies. Methods: This was a case study, whereby risk assessment records were obtained from four South African companies with different operational units, from the manufacturing and utilities sectors. Results: There were inter- and intra-company variations in the processes related to the legal context in which the risk assessments were conducted, the risk assessment tools and techniques used, the risk criteria definitions, the statements about the effectiveness of controls in use, and the risk evaluation outcomes. Inter- and intra-company variations in risk rankings and risk prioritisation outcomes were also observed a consequence of the risk perceptions of the assessors assigning a risk level to the noise hazard. In some instances, the adopted risk assessment tools and techniques categorised the risk from noise that was at or above regulated health and safety standards as 'insignificant', which those companies used as justification for taking no further measures to eliminate or reduce the risk. Conclusion: The use of different risk assessment processes, tools and techniques resulted in some facilities categorising noise as an insignificant hazard, which may contribute to high noise emissions and uncontrolled exposures.

ABSTRACT

@#Abstract: Objective To understand the general situation of death causes of permanent residents in Hainan Province from 2014 to 2020, analyze the causes of death, and provide scientific basis for the formulation of policies related to healthy Hainan. Methods The Hainan Provincial Population Death Information Registration and Management System was used to report data, and the death information of permanent residents in Hainan Province from 2014 to 2020 was obtained. Excel 2010 and SPSS 26.0 software were applied to perform statistical analysis related to the indicators including crude mortality rate, standardized mortality rate, ranking of causes of death, and composition ratio; the standardized mortality rate was calculated based on the data of the 2010 National Census Data. Results From 2014 to 2020, the average annual resident population of Hainan Province was 9 175 300, and average annual resident population at each of the eight monitoringp oints is 297 100, anaverage of 83 878 cumulative deaths were reported, the annual total mortality rate was 504.09/100 000, the standard mortality rate was 618.69/100 000. The standardized mortality rates of male and female were 806.18/100 000 and 444.36/100 000 respectively (P<0.01). The mortality rate of all age groups showed that the crude mortality rate of 0~<1 years old group showed a decreasing trend with the passage of time, and the crude mortality rate was significantly higher than that of other age groups. From the age of 20, with the increase of age, the overall crude mortality rate of residents keeps increasing. The crude death rate increases rapidly after the age of 65, and peaks especially after the age of 85. The leading causes of death were circulatory diseases, tumors and respiratory diseases. From 2014 to 2020, the mortality rate of circulatory diseases and tumors, the two main causes of death, was more than 100/100 000. Conclusion Chronic non-communicable diseases are still the first cause of death among permanent residents in Hainan Province. Targeted intervention and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases is beneficial to reduce their mortality.

ABSTRACT

(AU)

The analysis of sport performance should be performed through different predictors. Taking this into account, socioeconomic and demographic factors from the state where the person lives can be seeing as relevant determinants of the sport performance, especially in sports considered as "cheap and accessible", such as road running race. The purpose of the present study is to describe the distribution of the best road runners in Brazil, and to verify the relationship between the representativeness in the national ranking with variables related to the state, namely: human development index, state population size, monthly income, and gross domestic product. To determine the road runners' distribution across the country, the frequency of the runners presented in the ranking was reported according to Brazilian states. The Sperman correlation (r) was computed to verify the relationship between state predictors and the presence of runners in the ranking, with the significance level of p<0.05. It was observed a higher representativeness of the South and Southeast regions, compared with the other Brazilian geographical regions; in addition, a positive and significant correlation was observed between the variables "state population size" and "gross domestic product" with the states presented in the ranking. In conclusion, those regions with higher values in these indicators are more prone to have more runners in the ranking, given the highest number of subjects enrolled in this sport as well as socioeconomic factors that support the athletes during their practice, leading to a higher representativeness of this regions in relation to the other ones. ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the effects of seasons and latitude on tick counting and determined the best model to estimate genetic parameters for tick count and hair coat. Records of animals naturally exposed to ticks on farms in several Brazilian states and in Paraguay were used. The ANOVA was used to verify the effects of seasons and latitude on the tick count trait. Spring was the season with the highest average, followed by summer and autumn, which showed no differences between them. The winter presented the lowest average values. Latitude -11° had the highest mean value followed by latitude -18°. The Bayesian approach was used to evaluate tick count and hair coat and to identify a suitable model for estimating genetic parameters for use in genetic evaluations. The data were analyzed using an animal model with four different specifications for "fixed" purposes. The inference was based on a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). The criteria for selection of the Bayesian model indicated that the M1 model, which considered the breed composition in the contemporary group, was superior to the other models, both for tick count and hair coat. Heritability estimates for tick count and hair coat obtained using the M1 model were 0.14 and 0.22, respectively. The rank correlations between the models for tick count and hair coat were estimated and reordering was verified for tick count. The estimated genetic correlation between tick count and hair coat traits was negative (-0.12). These findings suggest that different genes regulate tick count and hair coat.

ABSTRACT

The relative age effect (RAE) refers to the difference in chronological age between birth quarters of athletes of the same age group, who may benefit people born at the beginning of the year. This phenomenon is clear in several collective sports, but in individual modalities, the results are still inconsistent, especially in triathlon. Thus, we aim to analyze if the effect of relative age influences the Brazilian triathlon ranking in junior athletes of the category 16/17 and 18/19. The study sample consisted of male triathletes of the 16/17 (N = 132) and 18/19 (N = 164) males, who composed the rankings of the years 2011 to 2019. For comparison and analysis of the data was identified the quartile of each athlete, as well as the data referring to the scores of the ranking. To test the effect of relative age, the chi-square test (χ 2 ) was performed. Then we test normality with the kolmogorov-smirnov test. We performed the kruskal wallis test to verify differences between the quartiles in relation to the ranking points and adopted a significance level of p≤0.05 for all the tests. The results showed that there were no significant differences in the quartile distribution of athletes in both categories. In addition, we also showed that there was no influence of this phenomenon on the rankings scores. With this, we can conclude that the RAE is absent in Brazilian junior triathletes and that this phenomenon does not influence the rankings scores.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Abstract In recent decades, Iberoamerican universities have introduced new quality assessment and accountability schemes, inspired by the New Public Management (NGP) model. In this context, efficiency in the distribution of public funds and obtaining the maximum possible return are a priority. Thus, measuring efficiency in the public sector, and specifically in higher education, has become a challenge for accounting science. The objective of this work is a proposal to calculate efficiency indices with Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models, introducing a previous step through the Analysis of Canonical Correlation (ACC). Using this technique, the aim is to improve discrimination capacity and overcome monodimensionality and lack of reliability in the representativeness of the chosen input and output variables. The study is applied in the public universities of Colombia and Spain during the years 2015 and 2016. The results obtained demonstrate the convenience of applying this preliminary step in the multivariate analysis. This reinforces the need to explore more rigorous methodologies in stages before and after the calculation of the efficiency indices. This practice increases confidence when using the indices to formulate policies and manage resources for the sector.

ABSTRACT

Empregou-se o método Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation II com a extensão gráfica Geometric Analysis for Interactive Aid.

ABSTRACT High costs and limited financial resources make it essential to prioritize sanitation projects. Multicriteria methods, for individual or group decisions, constitute modern tools to rank project portfolios. Currently, there are many methods available in the scientific and technical literature. In Brazil, the Hydrographic Basin committees constitute the institution for decentralized decisions to manage projects portfolios. This article proposes a multicriteria model of decision support for prioritizing a portfolio of sanitation projects within the scope of a basin committee. As a case study, a portfolio of 14 projects is used, which is the subject of a public notice for the application of financial resources from FEHIDRO and/or collected by charging raw water in the Piracicaba, Capivari and Jundiaí (PCJ) basins. The method Promethee II was used with the graphic extension GAIA. The model provided a detailed analysis of the potentialities of the alternatives. It was possible to visualize not only the ordering, but also all the overcoming properties of each alternative by the matrices and the graphs presented.

ABSTRACT

The study aims at taking risk assessment of pesticide residues in ginseng and high risk pesticides were picked up in order to provide a scientific basis for the establishment of maximum residue limits(MRLs) for pesticides in ginseng. Residues of 246 pesticides in 80 ginseng samples collected from different place were detected by GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS method. Acute and chronic intake risks were evaluated by using deterministic approach, and the matrix ranking developed by the Veterinary Residues Committee of the United Kingdom was referred to assess risk score of pesticides. The 25 kinds of pesticide residues were detected in ginseng samples, the detection rate of quintozene(PCNB) was 78%, which was the most frequently detectable pesticide. The chronic dietary intake risks of 25 pesticide residues expressed as %ADI were 0.00%-2.6%, and their acute dietary intake risks expressed as %ARfD were 0.00%-104.2%. Among them the acute dietary intake risks of PCNB was 104%,which was the highest. The 25 pesticides were divided into 3 groups by risk score, high risk group(4 pesticides), medium risk group(6 pesticides), and low risk group(15 pesticides). Hexachlorobenzene, phorate, PCNB and BHC were classified as high risk group. It is necessary and effective to establish the limit of residual organic chlorine in ginseng from Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2015 edition). MRLs for PCNB and hexachlorobenzene in ginseng were proposed to be revised based on the results of risk assessment.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Governments and private companies have increased efforts to identify effective actions for improving energy efficiency in manufacturing processes. The objective of this work is to improve the decision-making process by increasing the quality of information related to energy indicators in the food industry. This research involves developing a systematic literature review (SLR) to identify energy efficiency indicators in the food industry, which serve as inputs for a sectoral evaluation based on multicriteria techniques. The SLR identified six criteria evaluated by food industry experts, which form the proposed basis for evaluating the performance of related sectors. These criteria are: benchmarks, key performance indicators, framework, monitoring, ISO 50001, and information communication technologies (ICTs) in sectoral evaluations. The criteria were evaluated by experts using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which prioritizes the most important food industry issues using an evaluation scale. Weights were attributed to each issue and positioned according to the Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE) to evaluate each sector by the identified criteria. The evaluated criteria are applicable to the three sectors surveyed, with emphasis on the beverage sector. Among the evaluated criteria, ICTs were highlighted by Industry 4.0 as a concern for the food sector.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate, through cross-mapping, the correspondence of the expected results and prescriptions written by nurses among those contained in the Interventions Classifications and Nursing Results, for the diagnosis "Ineffective peripheral tissue perfusion". Method: Descriptive study, using the case study and the mapping. The content of the case study was validated, with a rate of 93.75%. In the mapping of the statements of the nursing phenomena, written by the participants with the standardized language systems, a concordance index of 100% and 90% was obtained. Results: Three statements of expected results and 19 prescribed care were analyzed. Of these, four presented correspondences with the classification of results and the same number with the classification of the interventions. Conclusion: The mapping allowed the correspondence of the terms adopted by the nurses with the standardized language systems and showed a didactic material to verify the pertinence of the decision making.
